Gaffing a nice Halibut as it comes out of the water
Fishing for halibut can be very enjoyable and action packed! Halibut are fished for on the bottom of the ocean, also known as bottom dwellers. Halibut range in size, sometimes your not sure what you have on the line until you get it to the boat. The Cook Inlet waters have some of the largest halibut in world. It is not uncommon to catch halibut over 100 lbs. Halibut usually range from 15 to 150 pounds and every once in a while you catch them over 200 pounds, that’s when you get the gun! Most of the really large halibut are female and very old, that’s why most people like to keep them less than 80 pounds for eating purposes.
